Man escapes as fire engulfs southwest Calgary home

CALGARY –Fire crews are responding to a house fire on Woodbrook Close in southwest Calgary Wednesday morning.

One of the home owners was asleep inside the home when the fire started around 10:40 a.m. A family member says he heard a window break, looked up to see a wall of fire, and grabbed his dog before safely leaving the home.

The fire started in the garage behind the house and spread to the home, damaging the back wall and deck of the residence and destroying three vehicles in the garage.

The house itself and the house next door were also damaged by flames; neighbours were evacuated for safety reasons.

Fire crews remained on scene just after 12 p.m. to finish extinguishing burning embers and are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
