CALGARY – Officers investigating a deadly home invasion near Carstairs were again scouring a rural acreage on Wednesday, looking for clues.
Police say three masked suspects entered a rural home on Monday, prompting a struggle between them and those living in the home.
During the altercation, a 67-year-old man who was in the home was shot. He later died at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary.
On Wednesday, RCMP confirmed the victim was driven to the hospital by a friend who was present during the original incident.
Police say the victim’s friend is cooperating with them, and they are still in the process of interviewing others who were at home at the time.
RCMP Major Crimes investigators are continuing to hold the scene, and have expanded the search area in hopes of uncovering more evidence.
The medical examiner is not releasing the victim’s cause of death until they get toxicology results back, and say it’s unknown when that will be.
