WINNIPEG — The Canadian Union of Public Employees launched a toll-free hotline and website to get public feedback on the state of Winnipeg’s snow clearing services Monday.
On February 10th the city’s Public Works Department was asked to develop a report comparing privately contracted snow clearing operations to snow clearing done by city workers.

Around 80% of snow clearing in Winnipeg is contracted to private companies.
CUPE Local 500 wants the work to be done by civic employees and not to be contracted out while the city says doing that would be much more expensive.
The information gathered from the hotline and website will be presented to the Public Works Department to help with their report expected to be released in June.
“We want to hear their experiences regarding snow plowing. We want to hear the good stories and the bad stories,”says Mike Davidson president of CUPE Local 500. “We know that Winnipeggers have a lot of concern about snow plowing in our city.”
The Snow Plowing Hotline can be reached at 1-855-223-9311 and the website at wpgsnow.ca.
