Saskatoon police Taser man claiming to have firearm

SASKATOON – Police had to Taser a man Sunday afternoon who claimed he had a firearm and was threatening to harm an officer. It began when Saskatoon police were called to a disturbance in the 700-block of Dufferin Avenue.

The responding officer found a man attempting to gain access to a building. He had a glass bottle in his hand and stated he had a firearm.

He refused to comply with orders and threatened to harm the officer. When he began to pull his hand out of his pocket, the officer deployed the Taser.

He was arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution. No firearm was found and the officer was not hurt.

The 25-year-old Saskatoon is facing charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, uttering threats to cause death and breach of probation.
