Vancouver police look for suspected hit-and-run vehicle

Vancouver police are looking for a car believed to have been involved in a serious hit-and-run two weeks ago.

It happened in the morning of Feb.9 at the intersection of East Hastings and Princess Street.

A 66-year-old man was walking to the grocery store when he was struck by a westbound car as he crossed at the intersection.

Police say the driver did not stop, leaving the man lying on the road suffering from a broken pelvis and two broken legs.

Investigators believe the driver was aware that he hit someone, but still fled.

The car is described as a white, four-door, 2000 or 2001 Nissan Altima.

Surveillance video shows a bright orange or red sticker or decal on the rear of the suspect vehicle. Police say the front bumper would have the most damage.

Anyone who has seen a vehicle that matches this description, including any similar vehicles that may have been hidden or moved indoors to avoid detection, or repaired at a body shop without an insurance claim, is asked to give Vancouver police a call.

“There is always that possibility that this person is unaware that they hit somebody,” says VPD spokesperson Randy Fincham. “But given the front-end damage to the vehicle, it would be fair to assume that somebody would notice that they have damaged their car to this degree and hit something. We believe they are intentionally hiding from the police.”

Fincham says the victim is recovering.
