WATCH: Okanagan school board chair pans provincial plan to ask for savings

KELOWNA – As school boards go through their budgeting processes it seems they’ll have to find something to cut. The provinces’ school boards are being asked to find $54 million in savings over two years leading some to worry that the quality of education will be impacted. However, during an appearance in Kelowna Friday the premier was adamant savings can be found.

The chairperson of the Central Okanagan Board of Education was surprised by the news.

“It is very disappointing and very unexpected and I just don’t understand how the government expects school boards to continue to cut their budgets year after year,” says Moyra Baxter.

But Premier Christy Clark argues other sectors have already done it.

“Hospitals did it, universities did it and now it is up to school boards to find the back office savings,” says Clark.
