KELOWNA — It’s quite common to hear about big ticket donations from corporations and businesses, but Friday at Okanagan College it was the students stepping up.

The Okanagan College Students’ Union (OKCSU) handed over a cheque for $100,000 to put towards the new trades training complex currently under construction.

“This is money from the pockets of students to this cause,” says  Chelsea Grisch, Executive Chairperson of the Okanagan College Students’ Union. “We think that’s a powerfully symbolic thing. It shows we’re invested in this institution and its future and the students that will follow in our footsteps.”

Grisch says the OKSCU hopes its donation will inspire the community to step up and show its support as well

“We are very proud and appreciative of the fact that our students have chosen to invest in the future of their college,” says Okanagan College President Jim Hamilton. “Their action demonstrates great leadership on their part and confirms our commitment to providing the best possible environment to support student learning.”
