RCMP continue investigation after body found in the snow

MONCTON – A single police car remained on the street in front of 22 Laura Lane, in White Frost Village Thursday.

RCMP are investigating after the 46-year-old homeowner was found dead outside his home Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP say the man’s half-brother found him partially buried in the snow around 3:30 p.m. and the preliminary investigation indicates he may have been there since early Monday morning.

“At this stage, the RCMP wouldn’t say that the death is suspicious,” Staff Sgt. Mark Janes of the Codiac RCMP told Global News. “But there are a couple things at the scene that we need to answer and that’s why the investigation is continuing and we’re holding the scene.

“We’re hoping that the autopsy will be held tomorrow morning, but because of the condition of the body, it may have to wait until Saturday.”

RCMP are not identifying the victim, pending notification of family.

According to a neighbour, the man only lived in the house for about a year and had moved to the neighbourhood from Riverview.

When firefighters first arrived at the scene, they were not able to drive the firetruck to the man’s house, because there was a parked car blocking the way.

They stopped in front of Alain Aubry’s house about five houses down.

“All the fireman took all their bags off the firetruck and walked down the road, and fought with the snow trying to get over the snowbanks,” he said.

Aubry said he didn’t really know the victim but had often seen him outside.

“He’s always happy-go-lucky, I guess. Never bothered nobody.”

Deputy Chief Don McCabe, from the Moncton Fire Department said crews faced deep snow when they tried to reach the man.

“They had to wade through the snow [reaching] between their knees and their waist to get to him just to do an assessment,” he said.

He estimates they had to go through 7 to 10 meters of snow that was about a meter high.
