MP Pat Martin blames tight underwear for almost missing vote in House

WATCH ABOVE: NDP MP Pat Martin delivers his hilarious account of how his tight underwear led to his absence during a vote in the House of Commons

TORONTO – NDP MP Pat Martin had his knickers in a knot while in the House of Commons Thursday morning, forcing him to leave his seat which nearly cost him a procedural vote. Seriously.

The Winnipeg MP left his seat while the House was voting on a government motion. His explanation for his absence? His undies were too tight.

“I can blame it on a sale that was down at the Hudson’s Bay [Company] – they had men’s underwear on for half price. I bought a bunch that was clearly too small for me and I find it difficult to sit for any length of time, Mr. Speaker,” he said.

Martin apologized to the House saying he “did not mean to forfeit my right to vote.”
