Man with history of sexual assaults out of prison and back in Calgary

CALGARY – Police are warning the public about an inmate with a violent criminal history who has been released back into the community.

Michael Andrew Scott recently finished serving a seven-year sentence for a handful of offences, including aggravated assault, forcible confinement, break and enter and breaching his recognizance conditions.

Although he will be monitored by the Correctional Service of Canada during a long-term supervision order for 10 years, police felt it was in the public interest to notify Calgarians about his release.

Police say Scott’s criminal history includes multiple sexual assaults and a history of offences in Calgary dating back to 1991.

He has been known to target female strangers in public places or in their homes. Investigators say his assaults have been impulsive and include threats of death, use of weapons and physical force.

Scott is described as 5’10” tall, 190 lbs. with brown hair, green eyes and a fair complexion.

Police say they’ve released this information as a precautionary measure, and caution the public not to engage in any kind of vigilante action.
