WATCH: Little girl’s single dad goes to hairstyling school

TORONTO – Not every father can claim to be the best in their family at making pony tails. But a single father in Colorado is defying those odds and taking his daughter’s hairstyles to a whole new level in the process.

Pueblo native Greg Wickherst claims that just a few months ago he had no idea how to give his daughter Izzy a pony tail and a plea for help didn’t exactly amount to much.

“I actually posted that on Facebook one time that I couldn’t do a pony tail and I got sent the video of the guy doing it with the nozzle from his vacuum cleaner,” Wickherst told NBC’s Andy Koen in a report.

According to KOAA, Wickherst tried the vacuum trick. It didn’t work. Eventually he mentioned his dilemma to a co-worker at IntelliTec College who suggested he visit the school’s cosmetology class.

“He honestly didn’t know how to do [a] pony tail and then before you knew it, he just picked up braids so fast,” student Ashley Rivera told NBC. “I was like, oh my gosh, I didn’t even pick it up that fast.”

Wickherst began posting his creations in an album on Facebook to share his little victory with friends.

Eventually Wickherst’s story exploded online – with a little help from celebrity actor Ashton Kutcher’s digital media company.

Now Internet celebrities, both daddy and daughter are spending some of their days making the media rounds.

“A week ago if someone told my I’d be with Izzy eating real New York Style pizza, on Fashion Ave, and going to do the Rachel Ray show, I would have died laughing,” Wickherst said in a Facebook post. “Thank God nobody told me that.”

But despite all the attention, Wickherst seems to be keeping both his, and his daughter’s, feet planted firmly on the ground.

“I think it’s a pretty crazy story that this is even happening because there are so many different things that dads and moms do as well,” he added. “There are so many single moms that learn football or learn construction.”
