Composite drawing of Strathcona County carjacking suspect released

EDMONTON — Strathcona County RCMP have released a composite sketch of a man believed to involved in a bizarre carjacking last month.

RCMP say a 23-year-old woman was driving on Highway 216 near Baseline Road just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, when she came across a collision between a white pick-up truck and a tow truck. The woman stopped to help after being flagged down by a man and woman.

While the 23-year-old woman was stopped, police say the couple forcibly took control of the woman’s car. After leaving the scene, police say the man ordered the woman out of the car. She was able to get away without physical injury.

Police located the woman’s Pontiac Sunfire near Hermitage Road in Edmonton. Investigators later learned the white pick-up involved in the collision was stolen near 91 Street in Edmonton the day before.

On Wednesday, RCMP released a sketch of the male suspect, along with a more detailed description. Officers say he is about 20 to 25 years old, 5’11” to 6′, 160 to 170 pounds, with olive skin and black, medium-length hair that is shorter on the sides. He was wearing jeans, a black hoodie and a dark grey baseball hat with light grey stitching.

Police continue to investigate the robbery and anyone with information is asked to call Strathcona County RCMP at (780) 467-7741.
