City looks for more ways to help Winnipeggers know their zone

WINNIPEG – The city is exploring creating a Know Your Zone app and putting up signs in residential areas to better inform Winnipeggers when an area is being plowed.

The city said improvements would be geared towards people who are visiting an area or a business and are unaware the zone is under a parking ban. Mayor Brian Bowman said the alphabetical snow removal zone is working, but they are also looking into other options.

“We’re open to hearing ideas and exploring any possibilities so that we can do a better job of communicating,” said Bowman.

Even though thousands of Winnipeggers received tickets during the parking ban, the city said the number of complaints is down.

“I have received some very positive feedback from citizens about snow plows,” said Bowman.

Right now the information is available online. The executive policy committee passed a motion to review all snow clearing practices, including whether it would be more cost effective to plow more often, but not down to the pavement.
