TORONTO – A couple in Belfair, Washington are safe now after pleading on Facebook for someone to come save them from their own dogs – dozens of them.
An unidentified couple, in their 60’s and allegedly Pekingese dog breeders, asked for help on their Facebook account due to unhealthy living conditions among dozens of animals.
“I got pneumonia,” the post stated. “I keep waking up in piles of you know what.”
Mason County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to the home after a fellow breeder arrived to help – only for the door to go unanswered.
After 911 was called, deputies found the couple in terrible need of medical attention. They were eventually brought to Harrison Hospital for treatment.
Former neighbour Joe Johnson claims he visited the house about a year ago and recalled what was inside in an NBC report.
According to the police report, 30 to 40 dogs were found along with a couple of cats, snakes and birds. All the animals were living in their own feces – and at least three dogs were found dead inside the home.
It took animal control departments from three different counties to coordinate the removal of the animals.
“It’s cruel, real cruel, to those animals,” Johnson told NBC. “They could have let them go, they could have gave ’em away but no, they kept them all.”
As for the fate of the couple’s pets – they’ll stay at local animal shelters until they are deemed ready for adoption.
