REGINA – The Saskatchewan government says people seem to be getting the message about speeding. In January, nearly 6,100 less drivers were caught speeding by photo radar than in December.

Overall, 15,584 drivers were caught speeding in January, down from 21,677 in December. Of those, 11,760 were speeding in high-speed locations while 3,824 were caught in school zones.

“Photo speed enforcement has been proven to calm traffic and while it’s still early days, we’re seeing a positive effect in Saskatchewan’s photo speed enforced locations after only two months of the pilot,” said Don McMorris, the minister responsible for SGI.

“Final January results are in and it’s encouraging to see more drivers respecting speed limits. We are hopeful these results will continue as awareness increases.”
