The long track speed skating competitions at the 2015 Canada Winter Games will relocate to Fort St. John after the outdoor ice oval in the host city of Prince George was deemed unsuitable for competition due to warm weather.

Skaters will now head to Fort St. John for a three-day meet in the Pomeroy Sports Centre later this week.

“It’s a very difficult decision,” says Canada Winter Games CEO Stu Ballantyne. “There have literally been countless hours put in to prepare this track. People were working all through the night, every single night…unfortunately, the weather is just not working in our favour this week.”

The Pomeroy Sports Centre boasts one of four Olympic-sized speed skating ovals in North America.
