CANMORE — An avalanche warning for the Rocky Mountains that was issued for the weekend has been extended for a few more days.
Officials with Parks Canada and Alberta Parks say the special warning they issued for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will now remain in effect until Tuesday.
It includes Banff, Yoho, Kootenay and Jasper national parks, as well as Alberta’s Kananaskis Country.
A 34-year-old man from Canmore died Saturday when police say he and a group of four other backcountry skiers were caught in a slide in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in southern Alberta.

Parks officials say that despite cooling temperatures and clear skies over the weekend, it may be later in the week before this year’s hazardous snowpack stabilizes.
An avalanche warning was also issued over the weekend for parts of British Columbia’s south central interior, including the backcountry in South Columbia, Kootenay-Boundary, South Rockies and Lizard Range and Flathead regions.
