WINNIPEG – Four people are in custody after a series of stabbings came close to killing four men Saturday morning.
At about 5:45 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, police and emergency crews responded to the 500 block of Sargent Avenue near BlueNile restaurant.
They found four men suffering from stab wounds. All were taken to hospital; one was in critical condition, one was unstable and two were in stable condition.
Police say two men and a woman in a black Dodge Charger fled the scene and eventually hit a concrete barrier in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue. All three occupants were taken into custody.
Officers learned the four suspects, three men and a woman, were part of a larger group that were asked to leave by an employee. One of the suspects then assaulted the employee with a weapon in the upper body. A second employee tried to help and was stabbed in the upper body. Two other employees were also injured while trying to help their co-workers.
While this happened, the woman suspect allegedly stole the keys to the Dodge Charger and drove it to the club to help with the escape of the other three suspects. Two of the suspects got into the vehicle before it drove off and the remaining suspect was arrested on the spot.
