Charges laid in southwest Calgary homicide

CALGARY – Police have laid charges in the death of a man in the community of South Calgary on Monday.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 1500 block of 28th Avenue S.W. around 1 a.m. by a man who said he had an unwanted guest.

When police arrived, they found a 45-year-old man suffering from serious injuries.

He was rushed to the Foothills Medical Centre by EMS, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

On Tuesday, Police announced that 49-year-old Bart Dwight Miller has been charged with manslaughter in connection to the death.

He was taken into custody on Monday, and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Feburary 11th.

An autopsy is expected to be completed on Tuesday, but friends and family have identified the victim as 45-year-old Robert “Joey” Marx.

His death is Calgary’s fourth homicide of 2015.
