REGINA – The city is launching a new website to help newcomers overcome various challenges.
Welcometoregina.ca was developed with input from various immigrant-serving organizations and features 10 languages.
“It’s a great tool because it’s easy to just go to that website and get all kinds of information you’re looking for,” said Gratta Nimbeshano, with the Newcomer Welcome Centre. “So it will be much easier for us to give the information to our clients.”
The provincial government says 80 per cent of people who immigrate to Saskatchewan end up staying in the province and the aim of the website is to help continue the retention trend.
“It’s as simple as finding a place to stay,” said Jeremy Harrison, the minister responsible for immigration. “Things that those of us that have been here our whole lives take for granted. These are very important challenges, like where to go to buy groceries.”
The City of Regina received $30,000 from the province to launch the website. Harrison said Saskatoon, Yorkton and Moose Jaw have also received funding for similar websites.
