REGINA – The public consultation regarding the future of liquor sales in Saskatchewan is finished, and more than 7,600 people visited the site.

The site launched on November 4th to give residents a chance to offer feedback on five different liquor retailing options. 6,404 people completed the survey and more than 3,000 wrote personal comments.

Out of a small sample of questions asked on the survey, 50.7 per cent of people agreed that cost is very important. 45.4 per cent said that the impact of government jobs wasn’t important to them, and 29.3 per cent also thought it was unimportant if stores increase their hours.

“Saskatchewan people had a lot to say about how liquor should be retailed in the province,” Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Don McMorris said.

“I appreciate the time that thousands of people took to complete the survey and especially those that took extra time to share their personal comments.”

The government will consider all the feedback it was given before it determines the future of liquor sales in the province.

Currently Saskatchewan’s liquor system consists of 75 government liquor stores, around 190 franchises operating in private businesses in rural Saskatchewan, 450 off-sale outlets and three private full-line liquor stores with a fourth private liquor store opening up in Regina this spring.
