In Photos: Wintry weather batters New England

TORONTO – For those living in the northeastern United States, the week got off to a rough start with yet another storm walloping the region.

New York, Pennsylvania and New England have been hit by several snowstorms this year, after a relatively quiet start to the season.

So far this month, Boston has received 64 cm of snow. The normal by this time is 7 cm. Depressing when you think that the month is only nine days in. Since Dec. 1, Boston has received 59.9 inches of snow, far above the normal 34.9.

Other states like New York and Vermont have also been struggling with the snow.

Albany, New York has only received 42 cm this month, but it’s still far above the normal 7.8 cm.

In Burlington, Vermont, a city that has been dealing with some rather harsh winter weather of late, the month-to-date total is 36 cm, also far above the normal value of 12.5 cm.

But one person is trying to make the best of the snow in Boston. During winter, artist Cedric Douglas goes around the city and creates “snow monsters.” During the last snowstorm — Juno — various monster faces dotted snowbanks around the city. Who can be grumpy with happy monster faces?
