Kanye West rants against Beck win, Grammys

TORONTO — Famously ornery rapper Kanye West lashed out at the Grammy Awards after Beck beat Beyonce for Album of the Year.

“Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyonce,” West said after Sunday night’s show, on which he performed twice.

When Beck’s name was announced, West stood up and headed towards the stage. For a second, it looked like he was going to hijack Beck’s acceptance speech like he did to Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009.

West sat back down. In an interview with E! later, he explained why.

“I’m not gonna do nothing to put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity,” he said. “That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight, but you all know what it meant when Ye walked out on that stage.”

West, perhaps not realizing that Beyonce’s peers cast ballots for the Grammy Awards, blasted the show.

“The Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us,” he said. “We ain’t gonna play with them no more.

“Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration.”
