Man pulled from burning vehicle after crash on Highway 59

WINNIPEG – A 65-year-old man from Steinbach is in stable condition after he was pulled out of his burning vehicle by three passersby after a crash on Highway 59 in Manitoba.

He was driving on Provincial Road 311, five kilometres east of Niverville, just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle on Highway 59.

Both vehicles went into the ditch and one burst into flames. The man was unconscious and pulled from the fire by three people passing by before being taken to hospital.

A 25-year-old woman from Winnipeg and a 24-year-old woman from St. Cloud, Minnesota, were in the other vehicle. They were also taken to hospital with serious injuries and have since been upgraded to stable condition.

RCMP say alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash. Police are continuing their investigation.
