HALIFAX – Halifax Regional Police blocked off a section of Spring Garden Road between Carlton and Robie Streets on Saturday after a bomb threat was made on social media.

Officers arrived just before noon and diverted all vehicle and pedestrian traffic from the area. Several businesses and homes were evacuated.

Staff Sgt. Bill Morris confirms a threat of violence was made on Twitter that targeted an “undisclosed business.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“The individual from the Tweet said they were going to try to get explosives and blow up a business,” he said.

The police K-9 unit was used to search the businesses in the area. At 3 p.m., the road was re-opened after police said their search did not locate anything suspicious.

“You can’t take anything as a hoax the way things are going around the world and especially in Canada,” Morris said.
