CALGARY – A Calgary-based Twitter account that showcases the diverse people and voices in the city is starting to gain some traction.
Each week, People of YYC is opened up to a different Calgarian who is able to Tweet about their experiences.
The account has been operating for 84 weeks and has over 2,000 followers.
Administrator Erin Matheson says the idea for the intriguing project was inspired by a similar account in Sweden, started in 2011.
“Their tourism department, which is Visit Sweden, started the account with the idea to hand it over to a new person every week to showcase the diversity of their country.”
Matheson says the account allows the people of Calgary to show their version on the city.
Anyone who is interested in taking over the account for a week can send an email to peopleofyyc@gmail.com with a brief personal description.
“The only thing we do look for is people who are active Twitter users already, but other than that we have no real requirements,” says Matheson.
