Weather causes delays in getting fuel to Moncton gas retailers

MONCTON – Greater Moncton gas retailers say Tuesday’s storm has slowed down fuel supply lines to the city.

Ron Roy runs a gas station on Mountain Road and says delivery truck drivers are trying to manage through all the snow.

“They’re coming to sites and there’s lots of snow,” he said. “Its a little harder to unload so it’s taking them longer to drop their gas every time they go to a site which slows things down.”

Roy says he’s even had calls at home from people looking to fill up. As of Thursday morning, Roy’s diesel and regular gas levels were running low.

In some cases, the shortage was so bad other retailers had to close all their pumps.

That was no surprise to Gerry Guthro.

“It’s kind of scary I’m getting pretty close to empty here,” he said. “It kind of leaves you in a hard spot I mean you need gas to clear the snow we need gas to get to work.”

Plow operator Matt Steeves was also trying to fill up at gas stations on Wednesday.

“I guess a lot of them are out of fuel,” he said. “It makes it hard for a lot of plow companies I would say to keep thing going 24 hours.”

Despite the delays, Roy says operators are doing what they can to keep Moncton from running on empty.

“They just can’t keep up and it nobody’s fault,” he said. “It’s just the weather and people got to work around it and go from there.”

Retailers were expecting fuel deliveries Thursday evening.
