A long episode of rain, which at times will be heavy is expected today, according to Global News meteorologist Mark Madryga.
The wet weather is due to a front moving off the Pacific which will bring rain, heavy at times, to the South Coast.
The rain is expected to ease off this afternoon before a second wave of moisture brings more intense rainfall tonight and Friday.
Madryga says the total rainfall amounts expected over the next two days will range from 50 to 80 millimetres and up to 120 millimetres for Howe Sound and the North Shore mountains.
Since heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads, Madryga says to watch out for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
As a result of this rainfall, BC Hydro will be doing a controlled release of water from the Alouette Dam starting at 9 a.m. on Friday.
The City of Vancouver have scheduled crews to work through the day to respond to calls related to flooding.
While crews will be working on areas with the potential for flooding by clearing blocked catch basins at main arterials, the city is also asking homeowners to clear their street drains of any leaves and debris.
