Waves of rain will hit South Coast tonight

WATCH: A subtropical storm is bringing some wicked weather to B.C. Jeremy Hunka has more on what to expect.

A moist Pacific frontal system will bring waves of sub-tropical moisture to the South Coast beginning tonight.

According to Global BC meteorologist Mark Madryga, the first wave will move through by Thursday afternoon and then a second wave is anticipated for Thursday night and Friday.

Total rainfall amounts of more than 75 mm are likely over a two-day period with greater amounts of 150 mm or more for West and Inland Vancouver Island.

“We’re expecting the heaviest rainfalls to be on the North Shore mountains around Vancouver and also through Squamish and Howe Sound,” says Jennifer Hay of Environment Canada.

In the Whistler area, the precipitation will likely fall as wet snow early Thursday before switching over to rain.
