More sex abuse allegations surface at Three Hills Bible College

CALGARY – More allegations of sexual abuse at a bible college in Three Hills, Alberta are surfacing.

The Prairie Bible Institute is facing a sex scandal after a woman came forward making accusations that date back 30 years.

Now, a new accuser is coming forward saying she was assaulted at the institute five years ago.

21 year old Carman Wesley says she was working in the cafeteria at the school in 2006 when a staff member from the bakery took her into the furnace room and raped her.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I’ve described it in the past as horrific. Definitely been haunting me.”

She was a student at the high school at the time which had separated from the bible college a few years earlier.

She says she it took her two weeks to work up the nerve but she eventually went to the RCMP where she was told there wasn’t enough evidence to press charges.

Wesley also alleges staff that her high school tried to keep the allegations secret and instructed other students at the school to ignore her.

Bevan Daverne, superintendant at the Gold Hills School Division, says this is the first she has heard of the allegations.

“Should we ever have a situation when allegations of abuse are brought up, our process would always act in the best interests of our students,” says Daverne.

Police say they can’t comment on specific investigations but are willing to re-examine old investigations if the complainant comes forward again.

“Those people, we request that they come back and we will look at it again at a detachment level, district level. We want them to understand we’ve done the best job possible,” says Patrick Webb, Alberta RCMP.

Wesley says she is planning to file another complaint with police.
