Salamida back for 6th season with Goldeyes

WINNIPEG — Chris Salamida apparently can’t get enough of Winnipeg.  The veteran left-handed pitcher re-signing with the Goldeyes for the 2015 season.  The 30-year-old returns for a 6th season with the Fish which will make him the longest serving starting pitcher in franchise history.

“He’s a great, veteran, top-of-the-rotation arm,” Goldeyes Manager Rick Forney said through a media release. “He really seems to get better with each passing year with us. He does a tremendous job competing on the mound and does a fantastic job leading our pitching staff.”

Salamida had a 7-4 record in 2014 while pitching a team leading 126 innings.  He already owns the team record for most career strikeouts with 435 and with a 40-25 career record he’s just 7 wins short of Ace Walker’s franchise record for most career wins.  He can also break team records for games started and innings pitched if he can stay healthy next season.

Salamida was selected by the Houston Astros in the 13th round of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft and played 4 seasons in their system before finding a home in Winnipeg.

The Goldeyes now have 11 players under contract for the 2015 season and will open the campaign on May 15 in Kansas City.
