Calgary science fiction fans are helping a small boy with a rare disorder.

One-year-old Sawyer Kai, has a muscle condition which requires a tube in his throat to help him breathe and swallow.

The Calgary Comic Expo is auctioning off a rare “Ovo-morph egg” from the movie “Aliens” to help pay for Sawyer’s care.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It’s signed by the cast and is the only one ever put up for public auction.

Heath Kai is Sawyer’s Dad.

“It’s still up in the air as to whether he’s going to walk effectively or whether he’s going to walk or need surgery or what. We might need to have a wheelchair ramp or a lift system in our house, those sorts of things, that’s what we’re fund raising for, for the future.”
