TORONTO – A Bulgarian woman is dead after she jumped for joy when her boyfriend proposed, lost her balance and tumbled off a cliff on the Spanish island Ibiza.
The 29-year-old died Tuesday when she slipped and fell down a 70-foot cliff at Cala Tarida beach, according to Periodico de Ibiza.
The Spanish newspaper reported the couple were at the beach, which is known for its spectacular views and sunsets, with a group of friends when the incident happened.
According to police, Dimitrina Dimitrova survived the fall but died of a heart attack. Emergency crews were unable to revive her.
“Everything is pointing towards the death being the result of a tragic freak accident,” a Civil Guard spokesman told the newspaper.
Dimitrova’s boyfriend worked on the island and she reportedly arrived two days before the accident to look for work.
