CALGARY – An arson investigation is underway after a rural house burned to the ground northeast of Chestermere on Thursday.

Fire crews say the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived on scene around 7:30 p.m.

Three people and two pets were in the house at the time, but were able to get out safely.

Police took one of the occupants into custody.

“We have one person who we believe is involved somehow with the house [fire], we’re not quite sure, he sustained some minor injuries, some burn injuries,” says S/Sgt. Glenn Henry.

“We arrested this person for his safety. So we arrested him under the mental health act, to make sure that he’s okay.”
