TORONTO — Four Canadian films will be screened at the Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) in March.

The full line-up for the 32nd edition of the festival was unveiled earlier this week by MIFF executive director Jaie Laplante, a native of Canada.

Running from March 6 to 15, MIFF will showcase 125 films from 40 countries at seven cinemas in Miami-Dade County.

The list of Canadian films includes three that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September: Guidance, Preggoland and Félix et Meira.

MIFF will host the U.S. premiere of Guidance, from Ottawa-born filmmaker and actor Pat Mills. It’s about an out-of-work actor who fakes his résumé to get a job as a high school guidance counsellor.

Preggoland is a comedy by Montreal’s Jacob Tierney about a woman (Sonja Bennett) who pretends to be pregnant to keep a group of friends. James Caan and Danny Trejo also star.

MIFF will show Félix et Meira, from Montreal director Maxime Giroux, which explores what happens when a married Hasidic Jewish woman falls for a man.

Also screening at MIFF is the comedy Ben’s At Home by Toronto’s Mars Horodyski. It stars Dan Abramovici, who co-wrote the film, as a single man getting over a bad break-up who decides to never leave his house again.

This is the fifth year Laplante is serving as executive director of MIFF. Born in Alberta, he studied at Toronto’s York University and co-wrote the 2004 Canadian film Sugar.
