CALGARY – It’s every football fans dream to hold the Grey Cup and on Thursday the Stampeders helped make that dream come true for one Calgary fan.
Bruce Dewar is a long-time Stampeders fan. He had planned to go to the Grey Cup game, but has terminal Cancer and was forced to watch from the sidelines at the Southwood Hospice.
On Thursday, the Stampeders brought the trophy to him.
“Oh it’s pretty special, I think, for Bruce … he gets to see the Grey Cup for once,” said his wife, Amber.
“It’s a good memory and something we’ll all remember.”

Bruce’s wife Amber came up with the idea and a friend made the necessary calls. The Stampeders accepted almost immediately.
“It’s pretty special for all of us to share this opportunity to see the Grey Cup and have a family moment,” said his son, Seth.
The Cancer has robbed Bruce of his speech, but it didn’t stop him from expressing his excitement at holding the trophy.
“Awesome,” he typed on his phone.

When asked about the Stampeder organization and their support, he had this to say:
“Don’t know what to say… stellar.”
A spokesperson for the Stampeders said the organization is proud to have brought such joy to the family.
Bruce was diagnosed with Cancer in November 2013. He and his wife have two children together.
