Okanagan cat lucky to be alive after getting stuck in leg hold trap

An Okanagan kitten, less than a year old, was found in a leg hold trap on a rural property off of Highway 3A near Kaledon on Sunday. Not-for-profit AlleyCAT Alliance received a tip about the injured feline, now named Phoenix, and staff immediately made arrangements to bring the cat into their care. On Monday morning, Theresa Nolet with AlleyCAT Alliance took the cat to a veterinarian in West Kelowna to find out the cat’s leg would have to be amputated. She says the surgery and medication provided at Rose Valley Veterinary hospital saved the animal’s life.

“His little chin was quivering,” says Nolet. “He reminded me of a small child that was injured and they’re trying so hard not to cry.”

The not-for-profit couldn’t afford to pay for the surgery, so Doctor Moshe Oz stepped in and paid for it himself. Nolet says it appears Phoenix had been wandering around the area for several days, possibly longer. Now the three-legged cat is looking for a new home. For adoption information, contact Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital or AlleyCATS Alliance.
