EDMONTON – Many of the cows being transported in a cattle liner died Wednesday morning after the vehicle rolled on Highway 36.
Early in the morning, RCMP, the Castor Fire Department and EMS responded to a single vehicle rollover of a loaded cattle liner about 10 kilometres south of Castor, Alta., which is 235 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.
The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The RCMP says many of the cows either died in the crash or had to be euthanized. The exact number of animals that died has not been released.
Road conditions at the time were icy and visibility was poor because of fog. Officials believe those conditions contributed to the crash.
