SASKATOON – You would think the above seasonal temperatures would be ideal for a walk, run or bike ride but depending where you go, even if it’s just stepping out your door, skates might be more appropriate. With all the melting in Saskatoon, puddles left behind are becoming little rinks overnight.

“We were concerned certainly when we saw the weather shift and knew that there was freezing rain,” said Alyson Edwards, a spokesperson with Saskatoon Police Service.

“It was very good that we only had 12 minor collisions that we attended, I think that certainly some of the streets, the side streets were slippery, the city did a great job attending to some of the major arteries,” said Edwards.

While mother nature threw people a curveball with the freezing rain, police say motorists knocked it out of the park.

“I think there were probably more slip and fall accidents than vehicle accidents, so we’re pleased that people did, they seemed to proceed more cautiously because of the change in weather,” said Edwards.
