REGINA – Workers who were hurt in a massive explosion at Regina’s Co-op Refinery more than four years ago are asking the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) for the right to sue for damages.

Four workers and their families filed a lawsuit in October 2013, alleging they experienced severe emotional distress and anxiety after the blast that happened two years earlier.

The WCB normally does not allow such court action, but the lawyer for the four says the focus will be on the board’s process and ask it to show good faith.

The refinery pleaded guilty last week to one of five Occupational Health and Safety charges resulting from the explosion.
