SASKATOON – Several hundred people laced up their skates for a Wintershines skating party on a beautiful Sunday at the Cameco Meewasin skating rink. Festivities ran from noon to 4 p.m.with complimentary food and live music.

Kids also got the chance to skate with mascots of their favourite characters from the Disney film Frozen.

The party helped usher in the opening weekend of the 2015 PotashCorp Wintershines festival. Last year, the event dealt with cancellations due to frigid temperatures but this year, skaters say the weather was perfect with a high of four degrees Celsius on Sunday.
