Where you’re most likely to get a parking ticket in Vancouver

A freedom of information request shows where you’re most likely to get a parking ticket in Vancouver. Nadia Stewart reports.

The City of Vancouver collects approximately $70 million per year in parking fees and tickets, but a look at the raw data indicates that some areas are more profitable for the City than others.

A report out Friday found that West Broadway was the street where the most parking tickets were issued, followed by Homer St., Howe St., W. 8th Ave, and Robson St.

The City of Vancouver says these streets are hot spots because they are high-traffic areas, not because they are targeting parked vehicles in those parts of the city.

“We actually make more money in people paying the parking meters than we do in parking tickets,” says Vancouver’s Director of Streets Taryn Scollard. “For sure, we would appreciate people paying at meters rather than getting tickets. That’s sort of shown in our numbers. Our revenues for paying at the meter have increased while ticket numbers have gone down a little bit.”
