Charges laid in New Year’s Day drive-by shooting

CALGARY – Detectives have charged two men in connection to a shooting in the community of Rundle on New Year’s Day that damaged one home.

Officers were called to the 700 block of Rundleside Drive N.E. just after 11:30 p.m. for complaints of a drive-by shooting.

They say three shots were fired at the home.

Three people were inside the house at the time of the incident, but nobody was hurt.

On January 3rd, police arrested two men in connection to the shooting.

Abdullah Amer, 20, and Azad Ahmed Haji, 28, are facing multiple firearms and drug charges.

Warrants executed at the time of the arrest yielded cocaine, oxycodone, cash and a loaded handgun.

Police say the shooting wasn’t random, and is believed to be targeted.

The Calgary Police Service announced the charges on Friday, after the conclusion of several operations by their Guns and Gangs Unit.

“Since October of last year, we’ve been quite busy suppressing violence and investigating a series of shootings,” said Sgt. Jason Walker.

“We’re just taking some time now to catch our breath and share some of the investigative success that we’ve had.”
