UPDATE: The BC Coroners Service has identified the man who died after an altercation at a Whistler hotel as 45-year-old Damon William Campbell from Port Coquitlam.

Previous story:

VANCOUVER – The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, (IHIT), has been called to Whistler after a man was found in medical distress in a hotel.

Few details are being released at this time, but IHIT confirms the man died as a result of an “altercation.”

Whistler RCMP was first called to the Aava Hotel just after 3 a.m. on Tuesday. When they arrived, they found the man unresponsive and in medical distress. Despite administering first aid, the man was pronounced dead in hospital.

IHIT says this was not a targeted attack, however, there is no risk to the public. The Independent Investigations Office has also been notified of the incident; they investigate “officer-related incidents of death or serious harm.”
