WINNIPEG – The National Hockey League has suspended Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo for six games for a vicious cross check from behind that injured Winnipeg Jets’ forward Mathieu Perreault.

Carcillo was only assessed a minor penalty on the play but he is considered a repeat offender by the NHL after getting suspended in the past.

Carcillo already served the first game of his suspension on Sunday night meaning he’s eligible to return on February 3, one game before the Jets and Blackhawks play their 4th meeting of the season.  Based on Carcillo’s average annual salary he will forfeit $40,243.92.  The money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Perreault left the game and did not return and missed Sundays game against the Coyotes.  The Jets haven’t released many details surrounding the injury only saying its an upper body injury and he’ll be out until after the all-star break.
