Car crashes in Surrey after driver fails to stop for police

A man faces charges following a crash in Surrey on Jan. 18, 2015.

Police are recommending charges in relation to a crash near Surrey City Hall where the driver failed to stop for officers.

The incident began around 1 a.m. Sunday when police spotted a vehicle that may have had stolen licence plates. When police tried to stop the car, the driver decided to speed up.

The Silver Kia hatchback spun off the roadway and into a grassy area around 104 Ave. and University Dr.

The suspect was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

He faces charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Officers are still trying to establish whether the car was stolen.
