$228 tip? A Stony Plain restaurant searches for generous customer

WATCH ABOVE: Someone ordered a $40 meal at a restaurant in Stony Plain and left a $228 tip. As Michel Boyer explains, the owner is trying to track down the customer.

EDMONTON – Bings Restaurant in Stony Plain is looking for the person who left a massive tip on their take out order Wednesday.

On a $39 take out order, the customer punched in a $228.83 tip.

When staff realized this, they decided to use social media to try and track down the customer, believing they accidentally punched in the large amount.

As of early Friday afternoon, the post has received over 100 likes and over 550 shares. Many people on social media have been commenting how great it is that the restaurant is trying to reach out to the customer instead of just keeping the money.

“We are truly involved in the community and so this is just making sure that we’re doing what’s right,” explained William Choy, who is the restaurant owner and also the mayor of Stony Plain.

So was this large tip an act of kindness? Or was it a simple mistake on the debit machine? Choy is still trying to find the answer.
