VANCOUVER – A man has been charged again for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Langley woman twice last year.

Langley RCMP say the incidents took place in May, 2014.

On May 17, a woman contacted police saying she had been sexually assaulted and held overnight by a man. She was able to escape, contact police and identify her attacker as William Bassett Jr.

Bassett was arrested, charged and released with conditions to have no contact with the victim.

However, a week later, on May 25, the same victim was reported missing to police. She was located by Langley RCMP two days later and said she had been kidnapped, beaten and sexually assaulted a second time. She said a number of people had taken part in the kidnapping and confinement.

Bassett is alleged to be the perpetrator in this sexual assault as well.

Investigators worked, and continue to work, with the victim to ensure her safety and any needs of witnesses.

On Dec. 4, Bassett, 39, was charged with kidnapping, sexual assault and assault. He is currently remanded in custody on unrelated charges where Surrey RCMP is alleging he kidnapped an individual and held him for some time. He will next appear in court on Jan. 23.

“These types of investigations are critical to address and get before the courts,” said Supt. Murray Power, officer in charge of the Langley detachment. “The actions alleged in these charges are an affront to the fabric of our societal standards. I recognize an excellent policing effort to investigate these events and our investigators continue to take the necessary steps to work towards a safer community for everyone in Langley.”

The following people have also been charged in relation to the case:

Andreas Jacobus Macrea Bronk, 26 – Kidnapping. Bronk is currently in custody on unrelated charges.

Charlene Mae Wald, 43 – Kidnapping.

Alisha Diane Wald, 21 – Kidnapping.

Both Charlene and Alisha Wald have been released on bail and will appear in court on Jan. 23.
