TORONTO — The Luminato Festival has posted the job of Artistic Director — but the man who’s had the gig for three years isn’t going anywhere.

Jörn Weisbrodt, who started as artistic director of the popular Toronto arts festival in January 2012, will remain in the position.

“Both he and the Festival want to continue the relationship,” said Luminato CEO Janice Price.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The job posting is part of the process involved to renew the work permit for Weisbrodt, who was born in Germany.

According to the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, Canadian employers are required to demonstrate “the efforts made to recruit and/or train willing and available Canadians/permanent residents” in order to obtain the positive labour market opinion from Service Canada that is required for a work permit.

“Luminato Festival is required to follow the legal process to renew a work permit,” Price explained, “which includes placing the job posting.”

“Jörn Weisbrodt has done an extraordinary job,” said Price.
