HAMILTON – What started as an apparent home invasion in central Hamilton is now a homicide investigation.
Hamilton police say officers were called to a home in the area of Cannon Street and Sanford Avenue just before 10 p.m. Thursday after a report of shots being fired.
Paramedics say a man found in the home had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination was to be conducted Friday to determine the cause of death.
The victim has been identified but police say his name will not be released until all his family members have been notified.
They say the investigation is in its preliminary stages but more information is expected to be released later.
Meanwhile, the homicide unit has taken over the case and anyone with information is asked to contact detectives.
